acids~

hello!
this is what we have learnt many things for science.
acids are one of them.
lai, let me tell you more about them ^^

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
these are labels that you usually see in science laboratories ;
acids ; properties
> tastes sour example. lemon and lime.
> turns blue litmus paper red
> reacts with some metals & give off hydrogen.
> when dilute sulfuric or hydrochloric acid is added to a test tube containing
pieces of magnesium, a lot of bubbles are given off.
this is called effervescene (bubbles). the bubbles produced contain
hydrogen gas. we can also test it by using a burning splint.
if it is inserted into the gas, the splint extinguishes with a ‘pop’ sound.
important equations ;
Acid + Metal = Salt +Hydrogen
Acid + Carbonate = Salt + Water + Carbon Dioxide
uses of acids ;
Hydrochloric Acid : remove rust on iron & steel
Sulfuric Acid : used in car batteries
Nitric Acid : manufacture fertilisers
